PLAY DATE – A Short With a Purpose

I’m grateful and proud to have had the opportunity to work on a wonderful film this summer. Currently in post-production, Play Date, is an important film that is trying to make a difference. 5% of all of the fundraising campaign proceeds for this film went directly to the OPCC (Ocean Park Community Center) in Santa Monica, an organization dedicated to helping the homeless.

Play Date is a short comedy that tells a story about a little girl who, upon finding a homeless woman in her backyard, invites the woman inside for a play date. It stars the talented Terry Walters, who has numerous film and television credits, as the homeless woman and Isabella Spencer as Emma, the charming little girl. Basketball Wives star Tami Roman and Marcuis Harris play the parents, while Rozie Bacchi and Kenny Leu make an appearance as police officers.

It’s a labor of love for writer/director Paige Morrow Kimball who started her career in film as a PA for directors Sidney Lumet and Woody Allen. She has produced and directed documentaries and reality shows for HBO, ABC, CBS, FOX and more. Her many credits include Project Greenlight and The Oprah Winfrey Show.

Principal photography was completed during a few of the hottest days of summer in July, including the day of the freakish thunderstorm that produced deadly lightning that killed one person and injured several others on Venice Beach. The four day shoot included 44 scenes but it was all for a good cause. Talented cinematographer Kimby Caplan served as DP on Play Date, and she, along with everyone else, made this a great experience.

Pickups were shot a couple weeks ago and Play Date is now in post.  More news and updates can be found here: http://www.funddreamer.org/campaigns/play-date
