I spent two days this week on a video shoot for the LA Mayor’s Office. I worked with Jenessa and Loghan, two very talented people on Mayor Villaraigosa’s staff, to film some “man-on-the-street” interviews for a video that will be shown next month at the Mayor’s State of the City Address.
On the first day, we talked to people at the Expo/USC train station, in Expo Park, and at the California Science Center. (Note to self – Trying to get interviews at a train station isn’t always productive, because many people tend to be rushing to get somewhere or the train arrives and takes them away.) In spite of that minor glitch, it turned out to be a pretty good day because we were given access to the hanger where the Space Shuttle Endeavour is housed and were even able to do a few interviews with happy Angelenos there.
Here’s the video …
The Endeavour alone is worth a trip to Expo Park and the California Science Center, as you can see by the pictures I took, but there’s so much more to see and do in Expo Park. When I finished filming, I took some time to check out the Science Center and the surrounding area. If you’ve never been there, take a look below at just some of what you’ve missed.
On the second day working with the Mayor’s Office, I went to LAX to film the Mayor’s news conference unveiling the three new international boarding gates in the Tom Bradley International Terminal. There was a little confusion which caused a delay at security because my name might not have been on the list, but after a phone call, we were on our way inside the terminal. I was able to get into position just in time to start filming as the conference began.
At the news conference, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said, “Today, we take another important step in creating the LAX of the 21st Century.” The waiting area seats have electrical outlets for laptops and cellphone charging ports. The Mayor, and those in attendance, laughed as random alarms interrupted his speech.
All in all, it was a great experience.
