19 Ready to Enter Nokia Theatre

2014 People’s Choice Awards

Awards Season is upon us and, once again, I attended the People’s Choice Awards, courtesy of Gotham Casting. The 40th Annual People’s Choice Awards were held last night at the Nokia Theatre, hosted by Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs. Plenty of A-listers were there to accept their awards like Sandra Bullock, Adam Sandler, Britney Spears, Robert Downey Jr., Ellen DeGeneres, Jennifer Hudson, and Justin Timberlake.

Last year I was part of the casted onstage audience and scored placement in the front row, which was pretty much one of the best seats in the house. This year’s production didn’t have that element, so my gig was as a seatfiller. I brought along Gabriela, a friend and fellow student from LMU, as my guest.

Before the show, we were placed on bleachers alongside the red carpet to watch and cheer along as celebrities arrived and were interviewed by various media outlets on their way into the Nokia Theatre. As you can see by the pictures, we were standing directly opposite The InsiderAccess Hollywood, and ET. Once inside, we were in a holding area for the beginning of the show and then seated in a couple different locations during the broadcast. While our seats were nothing like last year, it was still a great night!

For all the events I’ve gone to and gigs I’ve had through Gotham Casting, this is the first time I was a seatfiller. Being a seatfiller reminds me of a quote from one of my favorite films, Forrest Gump. It’s “like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.” Sometimes you’ll be in one seat the entire time, sometimes you’ll move from seat to seat, sometimes you’ll be standing in a holding area unable to see the event at all for a stretch, etc. Seatfillers are used when someone doesn’t show up and when people leave their seats to present or accept an award, so that empty seats don’t appear on camera.

No problem … That’s Hollywood!
