If you follow the stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in front of the Hollywood Highland Center west down Hollywood Boulevard (one of which is for The Doors), you’ll come upon the (formerly Grauman’s) TCL Chinese Theatres.
Grauman’s Chinese Theatre held their grand opening in Hollywood on May 18, 1927 and cost a whopping $2,000,000 to build. On January 11, 2013, the Theatre announced that they were teaming up with one of China’s biggest electronics manufacturers, TCL and that the theatre would be undergoing a major transformation, into the largest IMAX 3D theatre in the world. The renovation took just over four months to complete and Go Pro cameras were recording the entire time. Here is what they captured.
For decades Hollywood notables have attended movie premieres and ceremonies here, but the Chinese Theatre is famous for more than its film premieres and screenings. The Forecourt to the Stars, in front of the theatre, is where you can find the footprints and handprints of Hollywood’s legends and the imprints aren’t limited to just those attributes. Betty Grable’s legs to Jimmy Durante’s nose have also been immortalized here.
