PIE Shoots “BACK TO ME” at LMU: My First Job on a Music Video Set

09/16/2012 — GREAT NEWS, PIE FANS !!!

THE “BACK TO ME” MUSIC VIDEO SHOT AT LMU IN JULY (featured in the story below) JUST DROPPED ON VIMEO … HERE IT IS !

PIE, musical artists who describe themselves as “alternative rock infused with latin and blues flavors,” came to LMU to shoot a music video for their latest single, “Back to Me,” on our Shoot That Rat! set.

Instead of using their actual instruments for the shoot, they used instruments made out of trash from the set, which was, literally, a true-to-life (Hollywood movie set, fake) junkyard.  In fact, the broom David Zumsteg uses as his “guitar” in the video was partially my idea, and the drum set L Boogie constructed actually sounded a lot like a real drum set.

As a grip on this video, directed by the multi-talented Vanessa Newell, I performed a variety of tasks.  But the coolest thing I got to do was to control the lightning effects or, as I called it, “play Zeus.”

Before we wrapped, PIE gave all of us a free copy of their new CD, but since we’d already heard “Back to Me” so many times on set, those of us on the crew joked that we would listen to every song except that one.  The band has a refreshing style and a great vibe.  I really enjoyed Ellie Araiza’s voice too.

But, hey, don’t take MY word for it — check out PIE’s website for yourself, right here!
